Chinonso Christabel Uluocha – A Triple-Registered Nurse and Advanced Diabetes Care Specialist
Meet the founder
From family, to reflection, to a future vision.
The founder grew up in a loving, supportive home with both parents. The loss of their mother in 2016 and father in 2020 to complications associated with diabetes created a profound responsibility to understand more and help others act earlier.
Diabetes Champions transforms that experience into accessible education, community conversation and hopeful action.
Chinonso Christabel Uluocha is a Nigerian-, UK-, and Australian-registered nurse with a Master of Science (MSc) in Diabetes Clinical Care and Management from King’s College London, alongside professional certifications in Advanced Diabetes Care and other areas of diabetes management.
The journey
How a family story became a movement
-
GROWING UP
My name is Chinonso Christabel Uluocha, the founder of Diabetes Champion. I am a Nigerian-, UK-, and Australian-registered nurse. My journey into diabetes care began long before it became my professional calling. Growing up, I watched both my parents suffer from complications associated with diabetes. Witnessing their struggles planted a seed in me that would later shape my life’s purpose.-
FAMILY
My parents were at the centre of my personal journey with diabetes. Through their experiences, I witnessed how deeply the condition can affect not only those living with it but also the families who love and care for them. Their story helped me understand the importance of knowledge, guidance, and support for everyone affected by diabetes.-
LOSS
Losing both my parents to diabetes-related complications changed my life profoundly. Even as a healthcare professional, I had limited knowledge of the role that diabetes education, effective management, and timely intervention could play in preventing complications. Their loss left me asking difficult questions: Could things have been different with better knowledge and support? Could other families be spared some of the pain mine experienced? Those questions became the foundation of Diabetes Champion.-
REFLECTION
When I moved to the United Kingdom, I discovered a pathway to specialise in diabetes care. I saw an opportunity to turn my personal pain into a meaningful purpose: helping people living with diabetes understand their condition, make informed decisions, and feel supported throughout their journey. What began with loss gradually became a mission driven by compassion and hope.-
EDUCATION
I began my nursing career in Nigeria as a general nurse, gaining years of valuable clinical experience before specialising in diabetes care. I hold a Master of Science (MSc) in Diabetes Clinical Care and Management from King’s College London, alongside professional certifications in Advanced Diabetes Care and other areas of diabetes management. As a Diabetes Specialist Nurse, my experience and continued professional development have strengthened my commitment to improving the lives of people living with diabetes.-
ADVOCACY
I believe diabetes care goes beyond medication and clinical appointments. People need accessible information, practical guidance, emotional support, and the confidence to make informed decisions about their health. I am passionate about bridging the gap between clinical knowledge and everyday living, while recognising the important role families and caregivers play in the diabetes journey.-
DIABETES CHAMPION
Diabetes Champion was born from a simple but powerful belief: no one living with diabetes should feel alone, uninformed, or unsupported. My vision is to make diabetes education, practical guidance, and compassionate support more accessible to people living with diabetes, wherever they are in the world. Through Diabetes Champion, I hope to empower individuals and support families with the knowledge and confidence to navigate diabetes more effectively. For me, this is more than a platform. It is a purpose born from personal loss, strengthened by professional experience, and driven by the desire to make a lasting difference.-
FUTURE VISION
My hope is to help change the story of diabetes for individuals, families, and generations to come. Although I could not change my parents’ story, I have chosen to let their experience inspire a different future for others. Through Diabetes Champion, I want to champion knowledge over confusion, empowerment over fear, and support over isolation, helping people living with diabetes approach their journey with greater confidence, dignity, and hope. My story began with loss, but my mission is rooted in hope: the hope that knowledge, compassion, and support can make a meaningful difference in the lives of people living with diabetes.
